Best Play Today: Davis’s Bomb

49ers TE Vernon Davis hauled in a 73-yard bomb from QB Alex Smith in today’s NFC Championship. It was the first score of the game

Formation: Double Tight I

The Play: QB Alex Smith takes snap direct from Center, TE Vernon Davis slips outside, Smith drops back, Davis sprints straight deep, catches ball at the Giants’ 43, runs to touchdown.

What Happened: Davis squeaked pass the Giants’ zone coverage, and once he got passed the man-on DB nobody could stop him. He basically slanted toward the sideline, and put on the jets as soon as he got into open space.

The Aftermath: That was the first score of the game, but the game has yet to be finished. As the fourth quarter ticks away, the NFC Champion has yet to be appointed.
