Notre Dame safety prospect Harrison Smith, a projected second-round pick, is an in-the-box safety with exceptional potential.
He’s effective in both the pass and run defense, as he is a speedy pass-rusher who can also track down a sprinting tailback. Smith is undoubtedly an immediate-impact prospect.
While Alabama Crimson Tide S Mark Barron ranks as the best safety this draft, Smith is right up there at number two. While he likely won’t squeak the first round, the need for safety is quickly on the rise as tight ends are more and more active in the aerial assault.
Smith is a tad inconsistent, and needs to fix that if he wants to be successful at the next level. If he can boost his consistency, Smith will find himself with a starting job as a rookie.
