The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly asking for a low price in return for cornerback Asante Samuel.
CB’s Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie extensively overshadowed Samuel, a player worthy of a starting job, last season. Samuel by no means is a third stringer.
According to reports, Philly is asking for a fifth- or sixth-rounder in return. The 31-year-old should have some gas in the tank, however. His price tag does not represent his skill level. But for now, the Eagles have enough corners.
The tandem of Asomugha and DRC ranks among the NFL’s best. Since the defensive base formations consist of two corners, Samuel is destined to lose playing time should he continue his career as a member of the Eagles.
My prediction is that a trade will go down to the wire and will occur on draft day. The Eagles can build their team with the extra pick, and Samuel will get much more playing time on his new team.
