The New England Patriots have an electrifying, light-up-the-scoreboard type of offense commanded by notorious quarterback Tom Brady, but a prodigious portion of their success should be credited to slot wide receiver Wes Welker.
Welker, a 5’9” wideout, had 1569 receiving yards last season. He hauled in 122 footballs last season, which ranked first in the league, notably.
Welker signed his franchise tender today, which is worth approximately $9.5 Million. However, the playmaker is very deserving of all that money because of his tough, rugged, productive on-field play that has really made the Pats’ offense unique.
With star-studded names like Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and Aaron Hernandez, Welker’s spotlight could have been diminished with all of the breakout names emerging, but the household target had a phenomenal season last year, and is expected to repeat his numbers in 2012 and beyond.
