Cassel throwing against Pittsburgh.
In a midseason QB controversy, Minnesota Vikings HC Leslie Frazier stated that QB Matt Cassel has received the starting nod. QB Christian Ponder has struggled all season.
The Vikes also signed Josh Freeman this week, but will give him more time to learn the system.
Ponder started the first three games of the season (all losses), totaling two passing touchdowns and three interceptions, respectively. Cassel started a week later against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Vikes walked off the field victorious.
Heading into their tilt against the beatable Carolina Panthers, it made sense for Minnesota to ride with the momentum. If the Cassel stint crashes, then expect Freeman to get the shot.
