Derek Carr’s college team wasn’t typically on the national radar.
Former Fresno State Bulldogs QB Derek Carr is one of the draft’s most intriguing signal callers. In college, he put up bewildering totals (5082 yards, 50 touchdowns in 2013), but they have to be taken with a grain of salt. Carr and co. wouldn’t have to square off against elite teams every Saturday.
In a postseason bowl game, the USC Trojans ousted Fresno State 45-20. Carr’s lackadaisical 29-54 attempt-completion ratio (53.7%) was a prominent cause for concern.
Carr’s draft stock has risen recently, however. Carr squeaked into the 20-range in multiple expert mock drafts. His success in Fresno State’s Air Raid system could be viewed as a plus to scouts, despite the Fresno State’s weak schedule.
As the draft inches closer, Carr’s steady stock increase on Big Boards could solidify a first round selection, but it’s not easy to gauge his success compared to other quarterback prospects.
