Mack has established himself as one of the league’s top interior linemen.
OC Alex Mack will sign the Jacksonville Jaguars’ five-year, $42 Million (with a 2015 option) offer sheet, per Ian Rapoport.
Mack entered the league in 2009 with the Cleveland Browns, his current employer. Mack’s two-year option embedded in his contract prevented the Browns from using the franchise tag, so the transition tag was thus utilized.
The transition tag enabled Mack to search for a possible new home. The Browns can match the Jags’ offer sheet, which would retain Mack in Cleveland, or can decline to match and let him walk.
The Browns should undoubtedly match the lucrative offer. The struggling franchise needs building block players, and Mack is a stalwart in the trenches.
