Kaepernick Inks Prodigious Extension

Kaepernick is one of the top young QB’s in the league.

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick inked a lucrative six-year, $126 Million ($61 Million guaranteed) extension. The deal will retain the signal caller through 2020, per Ian Rapoport.

Kaepernick seized the starting reigns midway through the 2012 season. The Niners ultimately fell to the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII.

Kaep entered the 2013 season as the Day One starter, and had a very successful campaign. He completed 243 out of 416 passes for 3197 yards, 21 touchdowns, and only eight interceptions last regular season. Kaep also dashed for 524 yards on 92 attempts for four touchdowns, respectively.

The 26-year old is very dynamic on the gridiron. He can complete throws through tight windows, and possesses the ability to move the chains with his feet. His multidimensional style enables the Niners to rely on the read option and play action passes to stretch defenses. If he’s healthy, No. 7 is a lethal quarterback.

Kaepernick, a 2011 second round pick out of Nevada, has been to two NFC Championships in as many years. While the mega-deal will prevent the Niners from stockpiling veteran free agents with hefty price tags, it is apparent that the Niners believe Kaepernick can lead San Francisco to Super Bowl victories.
