Weatherspoon Injured, Out for Season

Weatherspoon is a core linebacker in the Falcons’ defense.

Atlanta Falcons HC Mike Smith announced that LB Sean Weatherspoon ruptured his Achilles tendon . The 6’1″, 241-pound Mizzou product suffered a season-ending knee injury in 2013, and was working with the medical staff to get back to full health.

Last season, Weatherspoon was sidelined for 12 regular season games. While on the field, Weatherspoon tallied 26 tackles and a 71-yard interception return touchdown, respectively.

The linebacker is slated to hit free agency in 2015, but could receive a one-year, prove-it deal from the Falcons. Philadelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin, who was sidelined for the entire 2013 season with a torn ACL, inked a one-year, $5.25 Million deal earlier this offseason. Weatherspoon’s next contract may be of similar nature.

Weatherspoon’s athleticism glistens on the gridiron. His health, however, has temporarily stalled his career.
