Offensive tackles are cornerstones in modern NFL offenses. The Dallas Cowboys have their cornerstone through 2023.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys and OT Tyron Smith agreed to an eight-year, $98 Million extension. Per Spotrac, Smith hauled in a $10 Million signing bonus and will earn $40 Million guaranteed.
Smith, a 6’5″, 290-pound USC product, is only 23 years old.
The Cowboys, however, will eventually have to give WR Dez Bryant a prodigious payday as well. If RB DeMarco Murray can stay healthy, he will need more dough.
The Cowboys are looking to improve upon their 2013 8-8 campaign, and Smith will certainly be needed in the ascension.
