When the Oakland Raiders selected quarterback Derek Carr in the second round of the 2014 draft, the franchise expected to have him sit out his rookie campaign. In May, ESPN reporter Jim Trotter tweeted that something “catastrophic” would have to happen in order for Carr to start.
Well, according to FOX Sports Insider Jay Glazer, the Raiders named Carr the starter over veteran QB Matt Schaub.
The Raiders traded for Schaub earlier in 2014 with the intention of him starting immediately. Schaub, who is going to enter his 11th season in the NFL, had a down year with the Houston Texans one year ago.
Carr outplayed Schaub this preseason. While it wasn’t the Raiders’ original plan, Carr gives the Raiders the best chance to win.
