During the 2015 Pro Bowl, Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri, who is a possible Hall of Famer, missed a pair of 35-yard PATs and a 38-yard field on smaller goalposts. The goalposts were shrunken down from 18’6″ to 14’6″.
Needless to say, Vinatieri wasn’t thrilled. The 42-year old went on to compare shrinking field goals and moving PAT’s back to removing gloves for receivers.
While PAT’s are virtually automatic, they have been integral to football for over 100 years. The distance should remain the same, and the goalpost size shouldn’t change. It’s part of football.
