Super Bowl XLIX: (NFC #1) Seattle Seahawks vs. (AFC #1) New England Patriots (Glendale, Arizona)
Sunday, February 1, 2015, 6:30 PM EST, NBC
The Seahawks are looking to be the first team since the Patriots repeated in 2004 and 2005. Backed by a strong defense, the Seahawks are loaded on talent.
Offensively, expect Seattle to continue their run-heavy philosophy against the Patriots. During the regular season, Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch tied for first in the league with 13 rushing touchdowns.
Quarterback Russell Wilson is a factor passing and running. A healthy dose of play actions will benefit the Seahawks immensely.
Defensively, Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas are nursing injuries, but the league’s top-ranked defense is expected to play at a top-tier level.
The Seahawks’ defense will need to be sharp against three-time Super Bowl championship Patriots QB Tom Brady. The Patriots’ offense has a great play selection variety. Head coach Bill Belichick will be sure to balance the run with the pass.
The Patriots’ defense was ranked 13th in the league in yards per game during the regular season. Cornerback Darrelle Revis is one of the best corners in football, and the Patriots’ front seven is very dynamic.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and Seahawks HC Pete Carroll both have Super Bowl rings, notably.
Prediction: Seahawks, 27, Patriots, 21
