Ed Sabol, the founder of NFL Films, passed away at the age of 98 on Monday. NFL Films is considered one of the most vital components of the league’s history.
Sabol began NFL Films in the 1960’s. At the time, the NFL was less popular than baseball, college football, and boxing. NFL Films featured slow motion replay and eventually mic’d up players. The NFL grew in popularity, and NFL Films continued its innovation.
Sabol passed on the company to his son, Steve Sabol, but his son passed away in 2012.
Sabol was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011. NFL Films has won over 100 Emmy Awards.
