PAT’s Could Change in the Near Future

While no official change was passed, extra points could be changed very soon, according to NFL Competition Committee co-chairman Rick McKay.

Extra points have been the same for decades, and the conversion rate of PAT’s in recent years is near 100%.

Possibilities of the future extra point include:

  1. Going for a two-point conversion from the 1 1/2 yard line or a PAT from the 15-yard line.
  2. Remove the PAT and make it an automatic two-point try.
  3. Add a rule where blocked PATs/two-point conversion turnovers can be returned for touchdowns.
  4. Making the goal posts smaller.

The talks have increased to a point where the PAT will almost certainly change. It’s just a question of how the league decides to make it a more interesting play.
