At the moment, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady won’t be suiting up for the first four weeks of the regular season. Backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to fill in for the reigning Super Bowl MVP.
Garoppolo, a 2014 second round pick out of Eastern Illinois, didn’t see much action during his rookie campaign. The 6’2″, 226-pound signal caller saw action in six games, and was 19-of-27 (70.4% completion rate) for 182 yards, one touchdown, and no picks.
Garoppolo is also a dual-threat quarterback. Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels even called a read option with Garoppolo at quarterback late last regular season.
It will be strange not seeing Brady quarterback the Patriots’ offense, but Garoppolo is a glimpse of the team’s future.
