Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is nearing a contract extension that will run through 2020, per ESPN 730. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport tweeted that the deal is expected to be worth over $100 Million.
Newton, the first overall pick in the 2011 draft, has been one of the league’s top signal callers since entering the league. In 2014, Newton played in 14 regular season games, and completed 262 of 448 attempts (58.5%) and threw for 3127 yards, 18 touchdowns and 12 picks. Newton ran for 539 yards and five touchdowns.
Despite Newton’s 5-8 regular season record as a starter in 2014, the Panthers advanced to the playoffs. Newton won his first playoff game this postseason.
Newton is a dynamic quarterback and is a key component of the Panthers’ recent success.
