Tuesday marks the beginning of the approximately two-week period where teams can franchise or transaction tag one player. Here’s a look at some of the players who could be tagged by the March 1 deadline.
Denver Broncos OLB Von Miller
Miller was unstoppable during the Broncos’ 24-10 Super Bowl victory over the Carolina Panthers, and was named Super Bowl MVP. I can’t imagine the Broncos letting Miller walk in free agency, and using the franchise tag on the elite edge rusher would give both parties time to work on a long-term contract before the 2016 season.
Carolina Panthers CB Josh Norman
Norman was one of the league’s top shutdown corners this season. He was vital to the Panthers defense, which led the league in turnovers.
New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson
Wilkerson led the Jets with 12.0 sacks in 2015, but broke his leg in Week 17. The Jets also have defensive linemen Sheldon Richardson and Leonard Williams, so it will be interesting to see if they tag Wilkerson or let him test free agency.
Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins
It wouldn’t be a surprise if Cousins and the Redskins agreed to a long-term deal sooner than later. Cousins was clearly a great fit for their offense, but if the two sides don’t reach a long-term deal by March 1, the Redskins will likely tag him.
