San Diego Chargers rookie defensive end Joey Bosa and the Chargers have talked this week, per USA Today Sports. Bosa has yet to report to training camp because of a contract dispute.
The Chargers want to defer $7 million of the signing bonus until next March, and want to include offset language in the deal. In other words, the Chargers want to be financially protected if they release Bosa during this contract deal and he signs with another team.
Bosa’s missed reps are piling up to the point where it may affect his rookie season. The fact that the two sides are talking is a positive sign the deal will get done soon, but if Bosa is missing from training camp for even longer, the lack of practice could show on Sundays.
