Wentz Named Starter

The Philadelphia Eagles will start rookie quarterback Carson Wentz Week One against the Cleveland Browns, according to head coach Doug Pederson. The Eagles made the announcement two days after trading QB Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings.

Wentz got the starting nod over former Kansas City Chiefs QB Chase Daniel, who played under Pederson from 2013-2015 in KC. Pederson was the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator.

The Eagles originally had Wentz penciled in as their third-string quarterback. In July, Pederson said Wentz would most likely be deactivated to start the season.

Wentz was the second overall pick in this year’s draft. The rookie signal caller has played in only one preseason game due to a hairline rib fracture.
